Refrigerator

We have had our fridge since we moved into this house 10 years ago and it was used then. We have noticed for awhile that the food that is in the fridge on the freezer edge would freeze. In May, I started finding colorful puddles on the floor in front of the fridge. Then I noticed the popsicles and otter pops on the bottom self of the freezer were liquidity. It wasn't totally unusual to find the stuff on the bottom of the freeze not as frozen...that's why we keep the otter pops there. Then we started noticing the rest of the stuff in the freezer was mushy. We emptied the freezer and thought the refrigerator was still okay, but through out the day the temperature kept going up. By the next day we were using our ice chest for a few necessities after having to trash ALL the food from the freezer and the fridge.

We looked into new refrigerators and tried to get it taken care of in less than a week...unfortunately all the ones that we were looking at couldn't be delivered for over 4 weeks. There was NO WAY we could last that long without a fridge...using our ice chest.

Luckily one of Michael's co-workers had a mini fridge in his office that he didn't really need that bad. His wife wouldn't let him have it at home so he kept it at the office. It was a life saver but we sure had to eat differently for a little while. I was able to take out a little shelf inside and keep 2 gallons of milk (one for the baby and one for the rest of the family). Then we bought small containers of ketchup/mustard/mayo and just tried to keep as little as possible in there otherwise. I tried to make smaller portions of food so we wouldn't have leftovers and also make food using non-refrigerated things.

Meanwhile we continued searching for a refrigerator that would work...which was a PAIN! We have a narrow "galley" kitchen that makes the fridge have to be a certain kind that can open well. We had a side by side originally but never was able to open the freezer door as much as we would have liked. We also had a depth and height restriction that caused us to have to be pickier about which fridge to buy.

We FINALLY found one that would work for us, ordered it and were planning to wait another month until it could be delivered right after we got home from our Canada trip. At least we had our little fridge to help us out until then...

Luckily Michael kept an eye on the delivery dates possible and we were able to contact the store and have it changed to an earlier delivery that made it so we only went 2 weeks without a big fridge.

Here is our new fridge the day it was delivered. It has french doors with the freezer on the bottom and we love it! I am thankful we had a mini fridge to use in the meantime, I am thankful it didn't take a month to get the new one, I'm thankful we had the money and ability to get a new one that fit our needs and I am thankful we have a functioning, full size refrigerator!!
